What is Norco?
Norco contains
a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is an opioid pain
medication. An opioid is sometimes called narcotic. Acetaminophen is a less
potent pain reliever that increases the effects of hydrocodone. Norco is used
to relieve moderate to severe pain. Norco may also be used for purposes not
listed in this medication guide. Hydrocodone can slow or stop your breathing.
Never use Norco in larger amounts, or for longer than prescribed. Narcotic pain
medicine may be habit- forming, even at regular doses. Never share Norco with
another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction.
Keep the medication in a place where others cannot get to it.
How should I
take Norco?
Dosage should
be adjusted according to the severity of the pain and the response of the
patient. However, it should be kept in mind that tolerance to hydrocodone can
develop with continued use and that the incidence of untoward effects is dose
related. NORCO 7.5/325 and NORCO 10/325 - The usual adult dosage is one tablet
every four to six hours as needed for pain. The total daily dose should not
exceed 6 tablets.
How it works?
Norco is a
brand name for a combination acetaminophen/hydrocodone tablet. Acetaminophen
and hydrocodone are two different pain-relieving medicines with two different
mechanisms of action. Experts aren't sure exactly how acetaminophen works, but
suspect it blocks a specific type of cyclo- oxygenase (COX) enzyme, located
mainly in the brain. Hydrocodone binds to specific receptors known as opioid
receptors that block pain signals on their way to the brain.
Norco Side
Effects?
As well as its
needed effects, acetaminophen / hydrocodone may cause unwanted side effects
that require medical attention. If any of the following side effects occur
while taking acetaminophen / hydrocodone, check with your doctor immediately:
More common 1-Dizziness 2-lightheadedness 3- Incidence not known 4-Back, leg,
or stomach pains 5-black, tarry stools 6-bleeding gums 7-blood in the urine or
stools 8-blood in vomit 9-bluish lips orskin 10-chills.
